Research Interests
Conducted a retrospective study of frontalis sling repair of congenital ptosis, comparing techniques and sling materials and subsequent aesthetic outcomes. Created a database of ptosis patients and enabled follow-up for patients over two years post-op. Published in American Journal of Ophthalmology 2005.
Studied the effect of lens opacity on Heidelberg Retinal Tomograph descriptive parameters in a retrospective cohort study comparing HRT parameters before and after cataract extraction and intraocular lens placement. Presented at ARVO.
Primary assignments were (i) to display the laminar and nuclear organization of the medial and lateral geniculate bodies of human excised specimens, by magnetic resonance microscopy at 9.4 Tesla, and (ii) to correlate these MR displays with histological sections of the same samples in order to confirm the visualized geniculate cytoarchitecture. Published in Duvernoy’s Atlas of the Human Brain Stem and Cerebellum: High-Field MRI, Surface Anatomy, Internal Structure, Vascularization and 3D Sectional Anatomy.
Studied changes in dendritic spine density and morphometry in normal aging monkeys, using cell-loading techniques, a confocal laser scanning microscope and 3DMA software for analysis. Published in Cerebral Cortex 2003.
Assisted in the ablation of specific cortical regions and subsequent behavioral testing of rhesus macaque monkeys who had previously been trained to perform specific tasks in order to determine the role of the parahippocampal gyrus, medial temporal gyrus, and hippocampus in the acquisition and maintenance of auditory working memory.
